The ILL is an international research facility at the forefront of neutron science and technology. Its High-Flux Nuclear Reactor delivers the world’s most intense neutron beams to a suite of over 40 scientific instruments. Every year, some 1800 international researchers visit the ILL to carry out cutting-edge experiments across a range of scientific disciplines, driving innovation in the fields of health, energy, the environment and quantum materials. The ILL is also involved in the production of radioisotopes for medical applications. The Science Division at ILL brings together close to 200 scientists, engineers, and technicians who work collaboratively to provide users with advanced experimental capabilities and expert scientific support. The DS is responsible by operating world-class neutron scattering instruments, supporting an international user community, conducting cutting-edge research, and developing new experimental techniques. In addition, the division drives the development of next-generation instrumentation and computational tools, fosters international collaborations, and contributes to advanced training.

Cryogenic fluids are at the heart of our activities: without them, it would not be possible to conduct experiments at very low temperatures and high magnetic fields. We are looking for a technician who will be responsible for cryogenic fluid distribution and helium recovery – an activity with scientific, economic and environmental implications. The technician will also help to design our future cryogenic systems.

Your tasks
You will join the team of the Services for Advanced Neutron Environments, where you will be responsible for cryogenic fluid distribution and helium recovery. In this role, you will: 
•    Perform regular checks to ensure that the distribution and recovery systems are working properly. 
•    Perform maintenance and regulatory requalification of equipment, and upgrade measurement electronics. 
•    Produce monthly reports on helium consumption and recovery. 
You will also participate, from time to time, in the design and construction of cryogenic systems. 

•    You have a Level 5 qualification (NVQ, BTEC HNC/HND, foundation degree or equivalent) in physical measurements.
•    You are proficient in the use of spreadsheets and web applications, as well as embedded electronics, and have some knowledge of mechanical engineering.  
•    You are a strong team player with an inquiring mind and a meticulous approach to your work. A service-oriented attitude and strong interpersonal skills would be highly appreciated. 
•    You are interested in developing unique devices, are keen to work in a multicultural environment, and enjoy tackling technical challenges. 
•    You are proficient in English, the working language in our international environment.
